A Wild One - Birthday Party

Seen on Inspired By This

Hey baby, you said you were a wild one!  Little girl Brixton may only be turning one but she has a wild soul and zest for adventure.  And that cutie smile all day long how can you not give her the sweetest birthday.  When Lauren Allen - lead designer over at Archive Rentals - reached out to me to with partnering on little Brixie's first big bash and mentioned she was thinking cactus, I was so down!  Not only has Lauren been an incredible friend and support to me she is uber talented and has unique eye for design with events and interiors!  She also has two little towhead babes, Ilsa and Brixton, and manages it all perfectly.  She's one amazing mama!

We recruited our favorite peeps to join in on the fun and create a cactus paradise theme like never before.  Mackenzie Myers - another Archive vet - is finally taking her talents to the max with her new company Rooted and Wild.  She has an eye for beauty and makes it look so effortless and really freaking cool at the same time. - Watch out for this one.  I'm calling her out now.  Big things my friend, big things -  Of course Archive for the win with their perfectly curated selection of vintage rentals.

Rooted and Wild knows how to make a fierce baby floral crown!  That smile is too much!

Calling all you savvy creative Mom's out there!  Lauren created the most cost effective extravaganza you've ever seen!  All those plush cacti her and her husbands mother made by hand for a month!!  They were the perfect compliment to this kid friendly tablescape.  They are beyond easy to create.  Grab some felt fabric, stuffing, and sewing thread.  Cut out your pattern and create what you like!  Or for you not so DIY doer's check out these on Etsy.

Tabletop is my dream space when it comes to conceptualizing.  I always like to start with this major focal piece and my theme tends to grow and expand around it.  Lauren had picked out her color scheme from this adorable Archive Rentals rug and she loved the idea of low seating area with cozy pillows for little ones.  We had done this concept before with farm tables, but wanted to experiment with Archive Rentals Solana table for a more modern floor set up.  I loved the idea of having southwestern decals  match the rugs design for a unique look.  Lauren used her Cricut laser cutter and graphic design skills to create the aztec shapes and cut the vinyl that we transferred.  These vinyl decals are friendly to any surfaces and just peel off when done.

Macrame mania!!!!  Our photo booth backdrop was oh so simple and the perfect setting to snap all those adorable kiddos.  The multi colored rainbow fabric pieces were made by Rooted and Wild and the dip dye was all handmade by the super mom herself, Lauren.

The invites set the tone for little Brixton's cactus bash!  Moe Paper Co. dreamed up these darling watercolor paper goods.

It just keeps getting better!  A custom made playhouse made by Brixton's dad -yes, this family has crazy skills and needs a reality show-.  This is any kids dream and was the perfect boho lounge for little's to imagine and play the day away

The gold maracas were party favors left over from my own wedding and we decided to have them calligraphed by Archive Rentals talented Office Manager, Brittany.  Lauren and I spent a couple hours creating 60 jewel tone yarn poms-poms for the place settings and napkin ring holders.  I'll let you in on a little secret, this tool is your best friend for these!  You'll find yourself making pom-poms for everything.

Number one rule if you want all your adult friends to come and celebrate your kids birthday on a weekend - Open bar!!!!  Make sure you have cocktails and refreshments on hand for your guests to enjoy.  We loved using Archive Rentals copper mugs for our Moscow Mule bar, with cactus ice and all!

Forrest and J - Brixton's Wild One - Cactus One Year Old Birthday Party

It helps when you have a traditional Mexican style chef in the family!  Lauren's stepmother fixed up a tasty spread of guacamole, mini tacos, and all the local flavors for a fiesta.  Lauren created a graphic to have printed on the custom cake and topped with the cutest Cacti candle of course.  Your's truly made the macrame cake holder.  I have a feeling you'll be seeing this fun install in many more projects of mine.

The macrame installation on the back wall was designed by Lauren.  She stripped fabric and hand died it to match her southwestern color scheme.  You can buy copper piping at Home Depot or any hardware store to make for any easy and lightweight prop.

The Bloom Workshop

The Bloom Workshop will forever be the best investment and most unforgettable experience I have EVER done.  The talented duo made up of Michaela Noelle and Ashley Slater founded Bloom in 2014 and have inspired and educated over 400 attendees and counting.  They allow you the confidence to make savvy and smart business decisions no matter what your passion.

"There is something so sweet about coming together in one room with a group of people who all share the same passion: creating beauty."  - bloomtheworkshop.com

Amy Osaba was a highlight of the workshop with her fresh sense of style on floral design.  Meeting Amy is like going out for drinks with an old friend and catching up as though no time has passed.  She also is a pretty bad ass boss lady who started from scratch and created a uber successful business out of making things look beautiful.

Best part was meeting new friends, like Nicole Lourie with The Bloemist based in LA.    Wait till we share the styled shoot we collaborated on!  Insanity.

Workshops are not only a place to fine tune your skills, but it's an environment that allows you to comfortably step outside of your box.  Watching so many other creatives work their craft, looking through mulitple eyes on how every individual see's the same image differently.  This is what makes us all unique and brings community together.  We are not competition, but allies with only the same intent and purpose.

We were spoiled with goodies every day provided from Adorn , Lulu and Georgia , Box and Bow , and more.  Every day you felt incredibly special and motivated, even by the little things.

The Palm Springs Guide for the Fashion 'IT' Girl

When it comes to weekend getaways, Palm Springs is always on our list!  From the sun to the palm trees, the iconic mid century architecture, and being a mecca for all things vintage is what makes this a top destination on our list.  We don't hate sipping on Mai Tai's while dancing at pool parties all day either.  Hey, whatever your thing is, we love it all!

We've put together a short list of our top 3 favorite locations to get the ultimate Palm Springs look.  Fashion is always the first thing we think about when attending any party.  You have to find that balance between looking effortless while actually trying, but not too hard, and we believe that how you dress, is how you feel!  So put on a little extra eye liner and wear the hot pink lipstick you've been dying to try, because ladies we're going out! Oh, and don't forget to always dress in theme with the event and never out dress the host showing perfect etiquette!

With these hot stores on our radar we know the perfect destinations to find colorful threads that will be the rave of every pool and garden party on our agendas this summer.

First up...

1. The Fine Art of Design

The mecca of all things vintage!!!  Audrey Hepburn, eat your heart out.

The vintage hat boxes steal the scene in this candyland of vintage duds.  The boutique has collected them over the years and has become a staple and fan favorite for all visitors.  Be ready to try on and don't forget to bring your bestie because you'll want to act out the 'Sweetest Thing' movie montage with this epic selection.  From Chanel to Dior this little boutique has curated the best of the best and outshines even the swankiest department store assortment.

2. The Frippery

If your vintage style is a bit more on the daring side with a hint of boho, The Frippery is your new soul sister.  These are not your typical Mrs. Roper mumu's you guys!  This little gem sits next to Cheeky's  on the 111 and will distract your hunger while you patiently wait for a table - we're food dreaming about the infamous bacon flight as we type

This pretty baby came home with us!  What do you all think?  It's a major 90's throwback done all super hot and sexy.  Sorry Gucci, this buttery leather only set us back $150.00, which means $$$ left for shoes!

3. Trina Turk

All right all you Kelly Golightly fans....this is your sanctuary and one stop shop for clothing, accessories, swim, and home.  Trina Turk is an iconic staple and has quintessentially captured the Palm Springs spirit in everything she creates.

You all know we are glutens for metallic and pink over here, so basically we kicked off our shoes and posted up for awhile in our dream space.  The staff is incredibly welcoming - their wardrobes make you entirely envious - and guides you through the euphoric atmosphere room by room.  Yes, there are rooms!  You feel like you've walked into the home of Trina herself and you secretly pray she'll be nestled in a peacock chair right around the corner.

Accessoires everywhere!!!!!  We especially loved the featured artist M. Quan with all her celestial inspired pottery and hanging wall art.

Thats our 1, 2, 3 roundup to keep you chic and on trend with the fashion icons roaming the desert streets.  Take a break from the pool and spa and let your man play another round of golf, because you've got some shopping to do.
