DIY felt cactus

A Wild One - Birthday Party

Seen on Inspired By This

Hey baby, you said you were a wild one!  Little girl Brixton may only be turning one but she has a wild soul and zest for adventure.  And that cutie smile all day long how can you not give her the sweetest birthday.  When Lauren Allen - lead designer over at Archive Rentals - reached out to me to with partnering on little Brixie's first big bash and mentioned she was thinking cactus, I was so down!  Not only has Lauren been an incredible friend and support to me she is uber talented and has unique eye for design with events and interiors!  She also has two little towhead babes, Ilsa and Brixton, and manages it all perfectly.  She's one amazing mama!

We recruited our favorite peeps to join in on the fun and create a cactus paradise theme like never before.  Mackenzie Myers - another Archive vet - is finally taking her talents to the max with her new company Rooted and Wild.  She has an eye for beauty and makes it look so effortless and really freaking cool at the same time. - Watch out for this one.  I'm calling her out now.  Big things my friend, big things -  Of course Archive for the win with their perfectly curated selection of vintage rentals.

Rooted and Wild knows how to make a fierce baby floral crown!  That smile is too much!

Calling all you savvy creative Mom's out there!  Lauren created the most cost effective extravaganza you've ever seen!  All those plush cacti her and her husbands mother made by hand for a month!!  They were the perfect compliment to this kid friendly tablescape.  They are beyond easy to create.  Grab some felt fabric, stuffing, and sewing thread.  Cut out your pattern and create what you like!  Or for you not so DIY doer's check out these on Etsy.

Tabletop is my dream space when it comes to conceptualizing.  I always like to start with this major focal piece and my theme tends to grow and expand around it.  Lauren had picked out her color scheme from this adorable Archive Rentals rug and she loved the idea of low seating area with cozy pillows for little ones.  We had done this concept before with farm tables, but wanted to experiment with Archive Rentals Solana table for a more modern floor set up.  I loved the idea of having southwestern decals  match the rugs design for a unique look.  Lauren used her Cricut laser cutter and graphic design skills to create the aztec shapes and cut the vinyl that we transferred.  These vinyl decals are friendly to any surfaces and just peel off when done.

Macrame mania!!!!  Our photo booth backdrop was oh so simple and the perfect setting to snap all those adorable kiddos.  The multi colored rainbow fabric pieces were made by Rooted and Wild and the dip dye was all handmade by the super mom herself, Lauren.

The invites set the tone for little Brixton's cactus bash!  Moe Paper Co. dreamed up these darling watercolor paper goods.

It just keeps getting better!  A custom made playhouse made by Brixton's dad -yes, this family has crazy skills and needs a reality show-.  This is any kids dream and was the perfect boho lounge for little's to imagine and play the day away

The gold maracas were party favors left over from my own wedding and we decided to have them calligraphed by Archive Rentals talented Office Manager, Brittany.  Lauren and I spent a couple hours creating 60 jewel tone yarn poms-poms for the place settings and napkin ring holders.  I'll let you in on a little secret, this tool is your best friend for these!  You'll find yourself making pom-poms for everything.

Number one rule if you want all your adult friends to come and celebrate your kids birthday on a weekend - Open bar!!!!  Make sure you have cocktails and refreshments on hand for your guests to enjoy.  We loved using Archive Rentals copper mugs for our Moscow Mule bar, with cactus ice and all!

It helps when you have a traditional Mexican style chef in the family!  Lauren's stepmother fixed up a tasty spread of guacamole, mini tacos, and all the local flavors for a fiesta.  Lauren created a graphic to have printed on the custom cake and topped with the cutest Cacti candle of course.  Your's truly made the macrame cake holder.  I have a feeling you'll be seeing this fun install in many more projects of mine.

The macrame installation on the back wall was designed by Lauren.  She stripped fabric and hand died it to match her southwestern color scheme.  You can buy copper piping at Home Depot or any hardware store to make for any easy and lightweight prop.
